Janko Munjić's article “Hybrid Intention and Augmented Agency: Allocation of Criminal Culpability in Neuroprosthetic Control” has been published in Volume 2 of The Paris Journal on AI & Digital Ethics. Developed from his PCAIDE 2026 presentation at Mines Paris – PSL, the article examines how criminal culpability should be reconstructed where human intention and technological control are integrated through AI-mediated neuroprosthetic systems. It develops hybrid intention through the relationship between initiation, technological mediation and the remaining human control window.
On 5 October 2026, Janko Munjić will present “Telepathic Technologies and Hybrid Intention: Criminal Responsibility for Symbiotic Human-Technology Agents” at the Supernatural Law conference. The paper develops the concept of “Hybrid Intention” within his broader research on criminal attribution in AI-mediated conduct, examining how criminal law should approach cases in which human direction and technological individualisation combine in producing legally relevant conduct. On the same panel, he will also comment on Elliott Van Dusen and Sarah Van Dusen’s paper on psychics, intelligence gathering and the legal regulation of the paranormal in criminal investigation.
On 1 September 2026, Janko Munjić submitted SOVEREIGN LEGAL AI — “Legal Reasoning Sovereignty and Jurisdictional Drift in the Age of Large Language Models” — to the ERC Plus 2026 call as Principal Investigator, with the Institute of Comparative Law in Belgrade as Host Institution. The proposed seven-year research programme would test whether a reasoning route shaped by another jurisdiction can enter professional legal reasoning, persist after direct model use ends, and circulate through later human work, comparatively across Serbia, Italy and Montenegro. He conceived the programme and assembled the interdisciplinary legal, methodological and technical team behind the application. The proposal is under evaluation; no funding decision has been made.
Janko Munjić presented his research at RoboPhilosophy 2026, held at University College Dublin from 11 to 14 August 2026. The biennial conference brings together scholars working on robotics and artificial intelligence, philosophy, law and the social sciences. His contribution, in the session on environmental robotics and society, extends a continuing line of work on how criminal law should respond when harm is produced through technologically mediated systems rather than by a single identifiable actor.
My contribution, “AI-Driven Criminal Justice: The Sharp Edge of the Automated State,” has been published in DigiCon’s DigiBook “Humanity in the Automated State.” The piece examines the use of predictive policing, risk assessment, and opaque algorithmic tools in criminal proceedings, and argues that automated evidence must remain meaningfully contestable.
Janko Munjić's article “Robots as victims? Examining criminal law's boundaries in the digital age”, published in Alternative Law Journal, has been referenced in Dmitry V. Zhmurov's 2026 monograph Nekriminologiya. The reference appears in the chapter on robots and artificial intelligence, where the monograph discusses the emerging vocabulary of “robot victimology” and the broader question of whether robots and AI systems can be approached through the language of victimhood. It is encouraging to see this discussion move across jurisdictions and languages, and become part of a wider comparative debate.
Janko Munjić spoke at the international scientific conference “Culture of Memory: 80 Years Since the Nuremberg Trials” in Novi Sad. His presentation addressed the transformation of evidentiary reasoning in criminal procedure, from the Nuremberg Trial to digital and algorithmically mediated evidence, within the broader legal culture of memory.
