New DigiCon DigiBook Contribution on AI-Driven Criminal Justice

My contribution, “AI-Driven Criminal Justice: The Sharp Edge of the Automated State,” has been published in DigiCon’s DigiBook “Humanity in the Automated State.” The piece examines the use of predictive policing, risk assessment, and opaque algorithmic tools in criminal proceedings, and argues that automated evidence must remain meaningfully contestable.

A small but meaningful academic note

Janko Munjić's article “Robots as victims? Examining criminal law's boundaries in the digital age”, published in Alternative Law Journal, has been referenced in Dmitry V. Zhmurov's 2026 monograph Nekriminologiya. The reference appears in the chapter on robots and artificial intelligence, where the monograph discusses the emerging vocabulary of “robot victimology” and the broader question of whether robots and AI systems can be approached through the language of victimhood. It is encouraging to see this discussion move across jurisdictions and languages, and become part of a wider comparative debate.

Janko Munjić spoke at the international scientific conference “Culture of Memory: 80 Years Since the Nuremberg Trials” in Novi Sad. His presentation addressed the transformation of evidentiary reasoning in criminal procedure, from the Nuremberg Trial to digital and algorithmically mediated evidence, within the broader legal culture of memory.
