Book review accepted by the International Journal of Law and Information Technology
Janko Munjić's review of Kamil Mamak's Robotics, AI and Criminal Law: Crimes Against Robots (Routledge, 2023) has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Law and Information Technology, published by Oxford University Press, and has been assigned the DOI 10.1093/ijlit/eaag020. The review considers whether robots can be objects of criminal-law protection, a question that runs alongside his own work on robot victimhood and the anthropocentric limits of criminal law. The article has not yet been issued, so the DOI will not resolve until it appears.

Passed the Serbian judicial examination
Janko Munjić has passed the Serbian judicial examination (sudijski ispit), sat within the selection procedure for judges of the basic courts and organised by the High Judicial Council. It is a separate qualification from the Serbian bar examination (pravosudni ispit), which he passed in June 2023, and passing it is not an appointment. He continues to serve as Senior Judicial Assistant in the Criminal Department of the Appellate Court in Kragujevac.

The recording of Janko Munjić's presentation at the Paris Conference on AI & Digital Ethics (PCAIDE 2026), held at Mines Paris – PSL in June 2026, is now available. The paper, “Hybrid Intention and Augmented Agency: Allocation of Criminal Culpability in Neuroprosthetic Control”, was subsequently published in The Paris Journal on AI & Digital Ethics. The recording can be played on the Talks page.

Presented at Supernatural Law, University of Essex
On 5 October 2026, Janko Munjić presented “Telepathic Technologies and Hybrid Intention: Criminal Responsibility for Symbiotic Human–Technology Agents” at Supernatural Law: Regulating the Paranormal, a workshop organised by the University of Essex. The paper was given in the session Protecting from the Paranormal, with Joel Colón-Ríos as its designated commentator. He also served as designated commentator on “The Regulation of Exorcism” by Marina Lostal and Joel Colón-Ríos, in the session Fighting Ghosts.

New article in The Paris Journal on AI & Digital Ethics
Janko Munjić's article “Hybrid Intention and Augmented Agency: Allocation of Criminal Culpability in Neuroprosthetic Control” has been published in Volume 2 of The Paris Journal on AI & Digital Ethics. Developed from his PCAIDE 2026 presentation at Mines Paris – PSL, the article examines how criminal culpability should be reconstructed where human intention and technological control are integrated through AI-mediated neuroprosthetic systems. It develops hybrid intention through the relationship between initiation, technological mediation and the remaining human control window.

ERC Plus proposal submitted: SOVEREIGN LEGAL AI
On 1 September 2026, Janko Munjić submitted SOVEREIGN LEGAL AI, “Legal Reasoning Sovereignty and Jurisdictional Drift in the Age of Large Language Models”, to the ERC Plus 2026 call as Principal Investigator, with the Institute of Comparative Law in Belgrade as Host Institution. The proposed seven-year research programme would test whether a reasoning route shaped by another jurisdiction can enter professional legal reasoning, persist after direct model use ends, and circulate through later human work, comparatively across Serbia, Italy and Montenegro. He conceived the programme and assembled the interdisciplinary legal, methodological and technical team behind the application. The proposal is under evaluation; no funding decision has been made.

Presented at RoboPhilosophy 2026 in Dublin
Janko Munjić presented his research at RoboPhilosophy 2026, held at University College Dublin from 11 to 14 August 2026. The biennial conference brings together scholars working on robotics and artificial intelligence, philosophy, law and the social sciences. His contribution, in the session on environmental robotics and society, extends a continuing line of work on how criminal law should respond when harm is produced through technologically mediated systems rather than by a single identifiable actor.

New DigiCon DigiBook Contribution on AI-Driven Criminal Justice
My contribution, “AI-Driven Criminal Justice: The Sharp Edge of the Automated State,” has been published in DigiCon’s DigiBook “Humanity in the Automated State.” The piece examines the use of predictive policing, risk assessment, and opaque algorithmic tools in criminal proceedings, and argues that automated evidence must remain meaningfully contestable.

A small but meaningful academic note
Janko Munjić's article “Robots as victims? Examining criminal law's boundaries in the digital age”, published in Alternative Law Journal, has been referenced in Dmitry V. Zhmurov's 2026 monograph Nekriminologiya. The reference appears in the chapter on robots and artificial intelligence, where the monograph discusses the emerging vocabulary of “robot victimology” and the broader question of whether robots and AI systems can be approached through the language of victimhood. It is encouraging to see this discussion move across jurisdictions and languages, and become part of a wider comparative debate.

Presented at “Culture of Memory: 80 Years Since the Nuremberg Trials”
Janko Munjić spoke at the international scientific conference “Culture of Memory: 80 Years Since the Nuremberg Trials” in Novi Sad. His presentation addressed the transformation of evidentiary reasoning in criminal procedure, from the Nuremberg Trial to digital and algorithmically mediated evidence, within the broader legal culture of memory.

Judicial ethics and legal skills programme at the University of Belgrade
Janko Munjić completed the intensive course Judicial Ethics, Legal Skills and the Responsibility of Holders of Judicial Office at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law, held on 30 and 31 May and 6 and 7 June 2026. The Faculty ran it with the project on strengthening legal culture in Serbia and the capacities of the High Judicial Council and the High Prosecutorial Council, part of the Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe. Alongside the doctrinal sessions the programme worked through concrete legal situations in workshop form, covering judicial ethics, judicial independence, legal reasoning, the assessment of evidence and legal interpretation.
